Beauty Advice: To Soap Or Not To Soap?

Mention using a stick of soap to any beauty junkie and it will be on par with admitting that indeed it was you who released that offensive smell. Both will be met with horror. But gone are the days when a bar of soap consisted of a 6-pack of that smelly gold coloured crap our Mum’s kept on every surface; an innocent enough looking culprit intent on stripping your skin of all the natural oils and other goodness. Nope, these days soaps have come a LONG way and are great for cleaning yourself in the bath/shower and can even provide that touch of luxury to pamper time.

I Love…

Lush ‘Miranda’ – A vegan soap bar with a kiwi fruit base. I’m obsessed with the ENTIRE Lush range (they just smell so darn good!) but this soap has to be an all-time fave. It has a tangy, fruity juniper scent and contains musky myrrh, kiwi fruit, ylang ylang petal oil, bergamot oil, and gardenia extract. Yum. ($7.90)

L’Occitane Bonne Mere Soap (in a whopping 500g) – the soap that never ends. A little piece of France in your own home, this original Marseille mold has been in production for hundreds of years and represents a piece of the original history of Provence. ($16.95)

Sisley Paris Eau de Campagne Soap –  A high-quality soap bar fragranced with invigorating herbal notes to deliver a fine-textured, creamy lather for an instant sensation of freshness. ($45)

Crabtree & Evelyn Iris Triple Milled Soap – Perfect for  luxe lovers. Enriched with a moisturising blend of shea butter and essential oils, it is a fragrant triple milled soap that sumptuously softens the skin. ($28.95)

PHYTOMER Seaweed Soap – A multi-action soap that refines skin texture and helps keep skin soft and supple. This is what I like to call a ‘smart soap’ and the ingredients include oligomer to fortify the epidermis, exfoliating chondrus crispus, emollient palm kernel and smoothing glycerine. ($24)

QV Bar – This fab formula is enriched with moisture to leave skin feeling soft and smooth. With the look of a soap, QV Bar helps to maintain the skin’s natural protective properties without stripping away natural oils like soap can. The pH 6, low-irritant formulation is free from fragrance, colour, lanolin and propylene glycol. Suitable for sensitive skin, and for conditions such as ichthyosis, dermatitis, and atopic eczema. ($8.95)
