Skincare Ingredient Secrets: Hyaluronic Acid

So you may have read part 1 of these new ‘beauty ingredient’ posts and are now familiar (and may have tried?!) the wonder that is angelica. So now lets look at Hyaluronic Acid; a revolution in the anti-ageing skincare sector…

Firstly what the hell IS Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic Acid is a substance that is naturally present in the human body and especially in skin tissue. Its function is to hold elastin and collagen together, but just like these two substances, Hylauronic Acid too depletes as we age.

Why is Hyaluronic Acid used in skincare products?

Hyaluronic Acid is a very effective humectant: that means that it has the ability to draw water from the environment into the skin, reducing water loss and keeping skin hydrated and moisturised. (Both of which are imperative components in the quest for line-free skin.)

What products are formulated with Hyaluronic Acid that are also awesome?

Thalgo’s Hyaluronic Mask contains marine hyaluronic acid. This professional formula plumps up the entire face and smooths and fills marked wrinkles. Apply generously, leave on for 20 minutes and then rinse off. Ideally use once a week. ($69)

Estee Lauder Re-Nutriv Ultimate Lift Age-Correcting Crème repairs and moisturises skin so it looks younger and energised. Contains renewing molecules to lift the skin and black tourmaline to deliver age-correcting results. Other ingredients include phormidium persicinum algae amino acid to recharge and silketare for restoration. Hyaluronic acid hydrates skin promising a more plump and supple appearance. ($410)

The Jojoba Company’s (love LOVE all things from these gems) COQ10 Antioxidant Serum can efficiently penetrate into the skin to deliver the Coenzyme Q10 active where it is needed. It works in synergy with a natural derivative of soy, with effective water binding properties to provide optimum benefits to your skin. The formula provides a moisture protective barrier to reduce transepidermal water loss, leaving skin noticeably smoother from the first application. It contains pure Australian jojoba, hyaluronic acid, alow vera, garanium flower oil, Siberian ginseng, lecithin, gingko biloba, green tea, quandong and salicylic acid. ($62.95)

Pevonia Collastin Eye Contour fluid is designed to fight wrinkles, crepiness and slackening of the eyelids. It helps alleviate eye puffiness and signs of stress and fatigue. Ingredients include: collagen, elastin, squalane, hyaluronic acid, green tea, vitamin E and AHAs. ($137.50)

  4. I have been blessed with fair, oily, acne prone skin, unfortunately. You name it, I’ve tried it – just about every product out there, which, in itself, is not so good for my skin. I just discovered Hyaluronic acid completely by accident. I am impressed!!!

I’ve had this really bad breakout on the side of my neck since July, that would just not go away. Since I began usingI use the Lady Soma Renewal Serum (which has the Hyaluronic Acid in it), they’re healing and going away. YAY!!!
I use it morning and night, and under my moisturizer. My skin is soft, no longer oily and I have not have any new breakouts (even when my time of the month came).
I am becoming a life long customer. I love this stuff.
