Everything You Need to Know

Your Summer Survival Guide

If my lank hair and sweaty pits are any indicators to go by; it’s officially summer. Well technically we’re still a few weeks away, but I’m going on a holiday to the GC this weekend so for me, SUMMERS HERE BETCHHESS!

So in light of impending bikini baring, I’ve complied a list of must-have prodz that will have you prancing around in a Brazilian at Bondi, rather than cowering under an umbrella at Coogee. Do enjoy.

The Tan

A tan is one of my FAVOURITE things about the sunny season, but thankfully for our skin, gone are the days of baking for hours to achieve the ultimate glow.  Keeping in mind though, we do our best to avoid self-tan disasters (you know who you are Mr Streaky and Miss Orange Patch!). Here’s the newest and bestedest prodz on the market to get it right…

ModelCo TAN Airbrush In A Can is the easiest to use, when opting for an ‘at-home’ spray tan. The 360-degree nozzle means you can get to all those hard to reach places (here’s looking at you, you silly old back), proving a rich and lasting colour. (RRP $32. Available at leading department stores and selected pharmacies.)

Kiehl’s Sun Free Self-Tanning Formula provides a gorgeous dose of moisture and healthy looking colour to your limbs. The lightweight, non-greasy lotion glides on easily, is absorbed instantly, and delivers an effective tanning action without streaking or “splotchiness”. (RRP $40. Kiehl’s is available at 396 Oxford St, Paddington NSW, 450 Chapel St, South Yarra VIC, David Jones Bourke Street Mall, Melbourne VIC, David Jones QueensPlaza, Brisbane QLD, David Jones Rundle Mall, Adelaide SA and Mecca Cosmetica nationally. Kiehl’s Stockist: (02) 9326-9980 or Mecca Cosmetica 1800 007 844.)

Bloom Body Tanning Mousse is an ah-maz-ing self-tanning foam that contains hydrating Aloe Vera extract, Sweet Almond and Jojoba oils. Applies easily and dries quickly for a streak-free, golden tan. Lightly tinted to see where you are tanning and scented with essential oils. Yum! (RRP $28.00. Available at Myer, David Jones, selected Bloom stockist, Bloom’s flagship store (574a Chapel Street, South Yarra, VIC) and online at

St Tropez Tanning Lotion is my FAVOURITE and most adored tanning product. It is also known quite widely as a ‘cult beauty buy’ – and for good reason. This rich and creamy formula gives THE most natural looking tan, which NEVER streaks or turns orange. I love how deep the colour can be developed to, just 2 coats literally makes me look like I’ve been in Tropez for a week. MUST-HAVE! (RRP $45. Available at Priceline, selected department stores and some pharmacies.)

Instant Tans

I’m in love with (good) instant tans; good ones won’t rub on to clothes and are the perfect go-to when those last-minute social occasions call for a flawless faux-glow!

Youngblood Mineral Illuminating Body Tint gives bare skin a warm sexy glow instantly, with a truly luminous finish.  The creamy, non-streaking formula leaves a healthy sheen on arms, legs and décolleté using a hydrating blend of Shea Butter, Argan and Avocado Oils. (RRP $52. Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics – Mineral Makeup)

Dr. LeWinn’s Instant Body Bronzer – Wash-Off Bronzing Gel is a skin enhancing bronzing gel, which achieves a natural, golden glow in an instant. Quick drying and streak-free, it glides on like a dream and lasts until you wash it off. (RRP $19.95. Available exclusively at leading Pharmacies Australia-wide, until sold out.)

Because really, who wants to spend summer desperately sucking down celery juice. (Ew).

Proskins Slim is a revolutionary pair of compression leggings that have caffeine, aloe vera, and vitamin e, embedded in the fabric to help reduce cellulite and smooth skin. (Are you all thinking ‘um YES PLEASE!’) The innovative material tackles the three major causes of cellulite; blood circulation, fluid retention, and lymphatic drainage. (Range includes: leggings ($150), 3⁄4 Sleeve top ($150), Capri ($135), Cycle Shorts ($120) and Shorts ($100). Proskins Slim are available from all Rebel Sport stores.)

Rodial Crash Diet Gel is a revolutionary formula that helps break the stubborn fat build-up by promoting drainage, helping reduce the fluid retention in the body. How you ask? Well let me get all technique-y 🙂

Elderberry osmotic gel works to reduce interstitial water retention in the hypodermal adipose tissue by favouring drainage/diuretic effect and de-swelling with long tern restructuration of the tissues.

Genistein (Soy Isoflavone), Spirulina, Caffeine and Carnitine complex is an anti-cellulite blend that helps to reduce the adipose tissue, stimulate lyposis and increase skin firmness.

Decapeptide stimulates dissipation of food energy as heat over fat storage by modulating energy expenditure and stimulating lipogenesis.

(RRP $90. Available exclusively from Myer.)

Skin gets a little bit silly in summer. All dry and sweaty and dull. Not good. So lets look at a few cool little prodz set to turn that complexion from frumpy to flawless…

Sun Protection

SO I do know that despite your best intentions, I will be able to find you beachside lapping up the sun, sand and surf. But PLEASE don’t roast yourself like a rotisserie chicken (think of those girls completely sun exposed who roll on 20 min intervals) and cover your biggest organ up. Did you know UVA rays can cause deeper damage than UVB rays?  UVA rays age the skin while UVB rays burn it.  Surprisingly, not all sunscreens protect against both. Lets look at a few goodies you need in that cute beach bag stat.

Yes To Carrots Pomegranate Conditioning Lip Butter with SPF 15.

Shield your smile from the sun with Yes To’s lip butter, formulated with Zinc Oxide for broad-spectrum (UVA/UVB) protection! This all-natural product can also be used to nourish dehydrated lips after sun exposure. (RRP $5.95. Yes to Carrots is available at Coles, David Jones, Priceline and selected stockists. )

Dermalogica Extra Rich Faceblock SPF 30+ is an ultra-emollient, nourishing moisturiser and superior sunscreen in one formula. Exclusive Skin Smoothing Complex helps retexturise skin while Evening Primrose and other plant oils replenish, increase and maintain skin’s natural defence barrier and critical moisture. (RRP $67. Visit to find your nearest stockist.)

Clinique Body Cream SPF 30+ offers a comprehensive defence against harmful UV rays with 3:1 technology, where UVB protection is three times proportional to UVA protection.  Why is this key? The ratio 3:1 is crucial to ensure products contain an appropriate amount of UVA protection.  Formulated with Clinique’s SolarSmart™ Technology, a unique blend of photostable sunscreens designed to help skin defend itself from UV assault. The non-greasy formula is oil-free, water and sweat-resistant, non-pore clogging and appropriate even for those with sensitive skin. (RRP $39. Available at department stores and selected pharmacies.)
