La Prairie Cellular Eye Cream Platinum Rare

If you’ve been privy to any of my skincare posts before, you know how much I despise eye wrinkles like crows feet *shudder*… Soooo it should be no surprise that this little gem is on my list of must-haves as it’s one of the best eye creams on the current market. It brightens & tightens skin tissue while decelerating ageing by enabling ageing skin to reflect light in the same manner as young skin. The formula contains soft focus diamond core powder to reduce the appearance of lines & wrinkles (while also lending a subtle sheen). The illuminating effect is enhanced by a dual peptide complex that helps eliminate dark circles under the eyes by strengthening the skin’s support system by activating the skin’s own elimination system. The tightening effect comes from the natural tensing action of polysaccharide & acacia gum that forms an invisible mesh on the skin surface to produce an immediate lift and visibly decrease wrinkle depth. Wax helps prevent the adipocytes reducing the feeling of puffiness under the eyes. This is enhanced by caffeine which aids the removal of excess toxins. $490 1800 251 010

Angelica: Your Skin’s Answer To Hydration

Thanks to Australia’s harsh sun, a constant infliction of AC, prescription only acne-gel, and a sometimes poor diet lacking in water-rich foods; my skin at the best of times is generally pretty dehydrated and the rest is an extreme mix between dry and oily.

So how do I KNOW that my skin is dehydrated rather than just dry? This is one question I get asked on a daily basis with most people using products that are suited towards dryer skin types when in fact they should be targeting their skin’s DEHYDRATION. So how do you tell the difference?

Dry skin is visibly sallow and extremely dull looking. It will look lack-luster and can even flake. Dry skin usually feels exceptionally tight and your pores will be barely visible if at all. Wrinkles are more prominent and skin can feel itchy and uncomfortable. Dry skin will generally be VERY sensitive and react easily to different products, which is why it’s best to stick with a simple regime boasting products with high moisture properties.

DEHYDRATED skin is super easy to self diagnose. Look closely in a mirror before pushing the skin on your cheek towards your eye. Is there a crepe papery effect? Are there visible fine lines around your eyes and/or on your forehead that probably shouldn’t be there just yet? Is your skin still prone to oiliness yet it looks dull rather than all glowy?

Any yes answers to the above are probably suffers of skin dehydration.

Better yet just head to your nearest L’Occitane boutique for a skincare consultation and the friendly staff can actually test your skin’s hydration levels. 🙂

That’s what I did and my skin’s hydration level read at a measly 38% 😮 (Generally 40-70% is considered normal yet dehydrated).

Oh rats 😦

Note the wretched fine lines lurking around my eyes & on my forehead. BAD hydration levels BAD!

So I discovered the power of Angelica and have fallen in ridiculous amounts of love with the prodz.

You see, all skin needs is a mixture of oils and water in skincare for it to remain balanced and feel comfortable. Angelica stimulates the production of aquaporins (the skin’s water channels) and makes them efficient, maximizing levels of hydration. The Angelica range contains the following PLANT BASED AND ORGANIC ingredients in the delicious and luxe formulas. The Angelica ingredients are extracted from the roots of the Angelica plant that has marvelous abilities for self-hydration. The cheeky plant can grow 2-meters in a matter of days!

  • Angelica Water: Boosts the production of the aquaporins, which boosts the skin’s hydration making it plumper and more radiant.
  • Angelica Essential Oil: Protects your skin against free radicals (the nasties that increase premature ageing).
  •
Borage Oil: Works with the skin’s natural oils so that your skin can seal water in rather than it quickly losing its water levels.

The combination of the above result in a very happy epidermis that retains water far better. YAY FOR PRETTY AND DEWY SKIN!

The Prodz

Gel Cleanser

An ultra-light and ridiculously fresh gel that gently removes make-up and impurities while protecting the skin’s hydrolipidic film to reveal the skin’s natural radiance. This is an absolute GEM of a cleanser and poops all over some far more expensive cleansers I’ve used (and I’ve used more cleansers than Miley Cyrus has received flack for that silly haircut… heaps right!). A steal at only $26. This is a beauty must-have.

Toner

First up this bad boy is alcohol free which is super as alcohol only dries out your skin. (On a side note did you know that some TRUSTED toners on the current market have so much alcohol in them you can remove nail polish with it? *Cough Proactive. *Cough Clinique.) The toner in the Angelica range is also only $26 and prepares your skin for your treatment products and moisture. A toner is imperative for any skincare regime as it removes all traces of grot and impurities that the cleanser may have missed and this gem also aids in hydration.

Exfoliating Gel

What some people don’t realise is that some face scrubs on the market don’t use ROUND exfoliating particles to slough of dead skin cells. So in effect some abrasive products are actually causing tiny scars on your face as you scratch the skin’s surface. This exfoliating gel is very gentle (yet does the job) as it contains microbeads to massage away all the none-essentials, leaving your face youthful and fresh looking. A real radiance booster. (Use 1-3 times per week.) RRP $32.

Hydrating Mask

Primarily water based, this bad-boy takes your skin from drab to fab in a matter of minutes. I’ve been using this before I go out of a night and my skin retains its ‘dewiness’ even after I’ve plastered makeup on my mug and crumped excessively. RRP $40.

Eye Gel

I’ve banged on about eye rollerballs here and I still love these prodz. But this fellow is pretty special. An ultra fresh gel that decongests the eye area with an instant cooling effect. It boosts microcirculation and works to reduce dark circles and puffiness while immediately tightening the skin around the eye. I keep him in the fridge for an added pick-me-up in the AM and a see-ya to my puffy ‘I wanna go back to sleep’ eyes. RRP $30.

Lotion

A light, fresh lotion that provides immediate and long-lasting hydration, helping to improve skin elasticity while protecting against free radicals and sun damage. I am not usually a fan of SPF products (skin sin I know) but used sparingly this delightful lotion doesn’t clog my pores. RRP $46.

Hydration Cream

My favourite product in the range (big call as they are all amaze) this opulent cream is so fresh and silky, it makes my cheeks as smooth as a babies sweet little bottom.  Try this for complete 24-hour hydration. RRP $52.

Hydration Face Mist

Pop one of these in your beach bag this summer for a perfect dose of hydration throughout long summer days. As it’s a light mist you can use over makeup and instead of making your face ‘slide’ it simply sets it in a very model glowy way. Love it. RRP $22.

So what did my skin look like after a facial using the products?

Well another water level test proved my hydration levels SKYROCKETED and my skin looked simply lovely (if I do say so myself) at a girlfriends birthday that night.

After Angelica!

YAY!

All of these products and a FREE skin consultation can be found at all boutiques nationwide.

You know how after a night out your skin looks shit? Or even after a night in, but one that involves an entire packet of sour straps and your own equivalent weight in cookie dough? Yep, that’s because you’ve put crap into your body and everything is released through your bloodstream and subsequently all your pores creating dull and grotty skin. Eylure Eyelashes: The Quickest & Easiest Falsies

Liquid eyeliner and fake eyelashes are two things I can get pretty much down pat. Tinted eyebrows are another story. I do find though, that a lot of my girlfriends marvel at me when I am painstakingly applying each individual lash to the natural fellow with precision usually reserved for those performing a face lift (now THAT’S a job you wouldn’t want to f**k up). So I am here today to let all you lasses who struggle with the concept of falsies know, that you CAN apply them super easily! You just need the right set! So without further ado, I bring to you Eylure Eyelashes, PRE-GLUED (yes you read that correctly, no mess, no fuss) lashes that you simply place along your upper lash line and press down. After use, you peel them back (unlike other falsies these bad boys don’t rip out the poor real sods underneath) and you can re-use them again and again. SO IN LOVE! So easy! 🙂

RRP $9.99. Available from Coles, Woolworth’s, Target & Kmart.

Beauty Review: Max Factor Makeup

I was recently lucky enough to enjoy a makeup master class with Max Factors head of makeup artistry, Liz Kelsh.

Lovely & SUCH A Babe

It was here that I learnt just how to obtain some of the key looks used at the recent MBFWA and also a few tips on my own personal grooming. (One look at me and she asked if I ‘always wore such dark foundation’… :o) Whoops! I had thought it was pretty much on par with my skin tone!

The Makeup Masterclass

What I learnt…

Foundation

‘Foundation is like a bra, women are always wearing the wrong one’ – Liz Kelsh

The lovely Liz expertly chose me a foundation shade in the delightful ‘Miracle Touch Liquid Illusion Foundation’ (I was ‘natural’ btw, wayyyyy lighter than what I would have thought!)

What Max Factor says about the prod…

With a unique lightweight solid to liquid formula it removes the need for the traditional concealer, foundation and powder combination and instead creates the perfect base in just one easy application. The result is a flawless, fresh and incredibly smooth complexion that glows with radiance.

Tips from Liz…

Using the supplied spongy thing (which I rec washing a few times per week in order to lower the risk of spreading bacteria), apply liberally over your t-zone before smoothing excess out towards the sides of your face. Use short sweeping motions and use your fingers to blend the colour evenly. Dab extra product under the eyes and over any other problem area to build the coverage rather than adding a concealer.

Liz also suggests applying a few shades of foundation to your jaw line when choosing your correct colour. The one that is least visible is your correct shade. Wearing a darker shade will not make you look tan, it will only cause a ‘mask’ effect. If you want a bronze glow then use a bronzer!

What I thought…

At the time of the event my skin was in horrific condition and we were also in white lighting so I didn’t think it had enough coverage for me. Now it’s my daily staple! I love how light and natural it is and it smoothes out my complexion without looking like I’m wearing foundation the way I usually do. Dang it, she was right! I AM a lot paler than I thought!

Blush

Blush is used to add colour and dimension to our face. A blank canvas is always dull, no matter the subject matter. I usually choose really girly pretty pinks for blush so I was a touch apprehensive when Liz chose ‘Mulberry’, a colour I would have usually deemed ‘Nana-ish’.

What Max Factor says…

This sheer, soft blusher blends easily into your skin leaving a hint of colour that completes any make-up look. Use Max Factor Flawless Perfection Blush to define your cheekbones or simply let the luxurious and soft texture freshen your complexion.

Tips from Liz…

Blow the excess powder from the blusher brush before gently dusting upwards over your cheekbones. Blush should always look natural!

What I thought…

Well. Yet again she knew best as I am LOVING this whole grown-up, natural thing that’s going on with my normally barbie-ish mug.

Eyes

We used 3 products on my peepers; Liquid Effect Pencil in ‘Black Fire’, Masterpiece Colour Precision Eyeshadow in ‘Pearl Beige’, and False Lash Effect Black Mascara.

What Max Factor says…

For liquid-like intensity and long lasting colour try Liquid Effect Pencil Eyeliner and get expert precision in an easy to apply pencil. The intense finish and depth of colour of this new eye pencil gives the dramatic framing and definition you would expect from a liquid liner. Use the smart smudging tip on the end of the pencil to blend the liner slightly and take your look from day to night in one simple stroke!

New Masterpiece Colour Precision Eyeshadow is the ultimate way to precisely defined eyes. As part of the Masterpiece Collection it comes straight from the kits of top catwalk make-up artists and is available in a range of must-have shades. Immaculate eyeshadow just got a whole lot easier.

New False Lash Effect Mascara doubles your lash size with the impact of false lashes without the fuss. It is this season’s make up artist must have. The secret is in the lash boosting combination of Max Factor’s biggest brush ever combined with patented Liquid LashTM technology. Now with every volumising coat the big brush sweeps right to the tips giving your lashes fullness and head turning attitude.

What Liz thinks…

The eyeliner is her ‘must-have’ and she is absolutely obsessed with it. With a bit a practice she says that everyone can do a smokey eye, winged eye or even just a sexy smudged eye. Liz is adamant that every woman NEEDS this in her beauty bag and the woman is a genius so… listen.

What I think…

Although the eyeliner is amazing, I royally f-ed it up the first time I tried to sharpen it 😦 This makes me sad as I was in LOVE.  Liz taught me to apply the eyeshadow only to my inner eye ‘v’ to make the eyeliner stand out more and my eyes to pop. This eyeshadow is super pretty (albeit not very practical for daywear) and you can also use it to highlight your cheekbones, however pat in quickly as once it sets it won’t move (which is awesome for your eyelids but not so much your cheeks). The mascara is lovely, and one of the better ‘false lash’ mascaras on the market. If you are after mascara that gives your lashes oomph and volume, then forgo this bad boy as although he is a gem at lengthening and finding the white strays he fails to plump them out. I actually like this as I hate lash thickness and potential glugs but most gals like a bit of volume with their length so keep this in mind.

Lips

As a lipstick bag was passed around, we were asked to select whatever colour we liked. Obviously I choose red 🙂 BRIGHT red! Every time I’ve worn it since I’ve gotten compliments from peeps, ‘really suits you’ etc so if you have similar colouring to me take note!

What Max Factor says…

For instant fabulous colour and smoother, softer lips overtime look no further than Max Factor’s new Colour Elixir Lipstick. The Elixir formula contains a 60% blend of skin emollients, conditioners and antioxidants including vitamin E, for a visible transformation in the look and feel of your lips in just 7-days. As you apply the Colour Elixir Lipstick, it actively moisturises and smoothes lips. Enjoy rich and gorgeous looking colour on smooth beautiful lips

What Liz says…

Luscious lips are an iconic, classic look, and keeping your lips in good condition is key! Lips are more prone to drying than regular skin and a good lip care regime is the starting point for any great lip colour look…

What I thought…

Lovely, LOVELY colour. Team with big curls and a LBD for instant classic chic.

Finished Look – please excuse my boofy mane & weird looking smile

Product Review: Yves Saint Laurent Forever Young

Glycobiology – The Future Of Skincare

I’m not really into science. I had 2 biology classes in year 11 before running straight into the arms of a design class which suited me MUCH better. The science behind the new Yves Saint Laurent skincare range however, is super exciting because it’s so darn cutting edge!

Glycobiology has to do with the structure, metabolism and biological role of glycans found in living beings. Glycans are macromolecules formed by chains of complex sugar. Research has demonstrated that glycans are present in the organism at three levels: in other words on the cell’s surface inside the cell and between the cells.
This particularity gives them three functions concerning the skin: metabolism of the cells, communication between the cells and the structure of the tissues which plays on the aspect of the skin.
Used in cosmetics and skincare for the first time, glycobiology has become an innovative scientific field which helps better understand and combat visible signs of ageing. Found naturally in the skin, glycans are responsible for the transmission for the youth messages of the cells. With age, the rate and quantity of glycans diminishes, hindering the skin’s regeneration process. The first signs of ageing appear: wrinkles, loss of tone, and dull complexion.

Yves Saint Laurent has created a committee of scientific experts: YSL – SkinScience. These experts come from the various entities of L’Oréal Research and are joined by experts in dermatology and glycol-sciences. Amongst the billions of possibilities, the committee has identified an exclusive complex of 3 glycans which stimulates the skin’s three youth-promoting functions: the glycanactif ™ Backed by the latest discoveries in glycobiology, Yves Saint Laurent has introduced a breakthrough in skincare with Glycanactif™. Designed to work as a true “cellular key” this original complex has been developed to favour the mechanics of regeneration of the skin, therefore helping to unlock the potential for “youthful” skin.

My Glyco Guinea Pigs…

With 3 products to trial I thought it best to trial across 3 different people to see the differentiation of results on different skin types. I got my girlfriend who has dehydrated and slightly congested skin to trial the toner; my Mum with dry and ageing skin to trial the SPF Daily Moisturiser; and I personally trialled the eye serum hoping it would improved my wretched fine lines.

Toner: Forever Youth Liberator Lotion

If you met my girlfriend you would think she knew every skin trick in the book but if you talked to her you would be astonished how very little she knows about skincare. Seriously that gorgeous mug of hers is annoyingly perfect for someone who I once caught using cleansing milk on it as moisturiser… I wish I were kidding. After she received the toner I received the following message;

‘Kel question… Eye cream, toner and lotion, what order do I use them in? Xxx’

* Face palm.

Sigh. Seriously, sometimes I wonder what or if I have taught that girl anything. Anyway after clearing up the general order of a skincare regime she began using the toner morning and night allowing her moisturiser (actually not a lotion my love), to absorb easier and her skin to get an amazing kick of supple skin ingredients. And after seeing her latest fb pics, I can see that the proof is in the pudding with a gorgeously glowing mug of hers beaming at me from each shot. Result!

The ultra-gentle toner (marketed as a lotion) prepares the skin for the efficacy of your moisturiser. It immediately makes the complexion look more transparent, reduces the look of fatigue and leaves the skin feeling smoother, firmer, more toned and revitalised.

RRP $55. Available at Myer, David Jones and selected pharmacies.

Face Cream: Forever Youth Liberator SPF 15 Crème

Personally, I can’t stand products with SPF in them. (Skin sin I know.) They revolt me, so I quickly handed this one over to mumma dearest. She gladly obliged and immediately fell in love with the creamy texture. The Yves Saint Laurent Forever Youth Liberator SPF 15 Crème is a moisturising cream containing SPF protection and Glycanactif™ a patented combination of three glycans, which helps increase youthful activity in skin cells*. With SPF 15, this creme helps protect the skin against daily sun exposure. The Forever Youth Liberator Crème immediately makes the skin look more radiant, softer and more comfortable.

RRP $145. Available at Myer, David Jones and selected pharmacies.

Eye Serum: Forever Youth Liberator Eye Cream

I DESPISE my fine lines, they are mostly dehydration but there are a few definite age lines that annoy me to no end. This prod was absolutely BEAUTIFUL! It absorbed really quickly and appeared to smooth the crepeiness of my eye area. Loved it. The formula is designed to relax the whole eye contour area which is why I saw such great instant results.

RRP $99. Available at Myer, David Jones and selected pharmacies.
